Post 004: Southern Nevada’s Must Visit RV Parks, Johnnie Walker RV Edition
With our Happy Camper Hunt Photo Contest in full swing, we thought now would be a great time to share some of our favorite RV parks within a few hours of Vegas. After all, every photo of you and your trailer, fifth wheel, toyhauler or motorhome deserves a great backdrop! As a friendly reminder, we are accepting entries for our Happy Camper Hunt until August 20th. Don’t miss your chance to win the $450 Prize Pack our 1st Place winner will be receiving!
Anyway, we’ve said it before: one of our favorite things about being in the JWRV family is getting to try different RV parks, campsites and other drivable destinations, then sharing those experiences and locations with our extended family of customers and friends. True to that spirit, several members of our family combined forces to put together the NV RV destinations list below — our choice RV campsites are on it, and are all within just hours of Las Vegas!
Without further ado, let’s dive into some of Johnnie Walker RV’s must-visit RV parks in Nevada.
McWilliams Campground (near Mt. Charleston)
- Why We Love It: McWilliams Campground is super close to home and a perfect place to get away from the city for a weekend or overnight stay in the Spring Mountains. It’s beautiful all year long, is surrounded by several trails and springs, and tends to stay much cooler than Las Vegas proper. Camping basics are available and the site has recently been updated, so facilities are up-to-date and campgrounds are fairly level. Our favorite little perk? The heated bathrooms during cold nights!

Lake Mead RV Village at Boulder Beach
- Why We Love It: Sometimes we need a getaway close to home where we can camp with a few luxuries thrown in. Lake Mead RV Village at Boulder Beach has become one of our family’s go-to places for just that! Just over half an hour away for most Las Vegans, this destination offers RV camping right on Lake Mead. Aside from the spectacular lake views, it is also walking distance from Boulder Beach and offers premium amenities for those not looking to rough it.

Fletcher View Campground
- Why We Love It: This is a smaller, more secluded site near Las Vegas with breathtaking mountain scenery, greenery, access to several trails, super-clean bathrooms and lots of shade! The animal lovers in our family particularly love the magnificent wild horses that come through around dusk and the deer in the morning. And while the campground is on Mt. Charleston, it’s among the sites with the lowest elevation on the mountain, making it a little easier for RV transportation.

Valley of Fire State Park
- Why We Love It: Valley of Fire State Park covers nearly 46,000 acres and is a must-see location for the hikers in our family. Stunning red sandstone formations surround the pet and kid-friendly location (the views are unreal and look painted!), and the kids in our family love seeing the big horned sheep that stroll around. Be sure to come early, because the RV sites don’t take reservations – but they’re worth the effort!

Lakeside RV Park
- Why We Love It: “Lakeside” isn’t just a clever name. This park offers beautiful water and mountainside views on a 7-acre lake, but with a Nevada twist: it’s adjacent to Lakeside Casino. So your RV vacation comes with some glitzy amenities and adventure options, all of which you can top off with a winning spin on their casino floor.
- Distance from JWRV: 64 miles (1 hr, 12 min drive)
- Address: 5870 Homestead Rd, Pahrump, NV 89048
- Phone: (775) 751-7770

Beaver Dam State Park
- Why We Love It: Beaver Dam State Park is a simple, natural, quiet and peaceful escape just a few hours from home base, near the Utah border. Visit and you’ll be surrounded by canyons, tranquil streams, waterfalls and natural foliage such as juniper, pinyon and ponderosa forests. It’s very remote, so amenities are basic but nature is abundant. Members of our family have reported seeing deer, rabbits, beavers, turkeys and a porcupine along its four hiking paths. Someone even claimed to have spotted a mythical jackalope, but we’ll let you be the judge of that! Spaces are mostly small, so this site is best for small trailers; however, there is some room for larger rigs.

- Phone: (775) 728-4460
- Features & Amenities: Two campgrounds with campsites each featuring a fire pit, picnic table and parking; drinking water; vault toilets; group areas with horseshoe pits; a shared picnic area with barbecue pits; stream fishing
Eagle Valley Resort
- Why We Love It: Honestly, we love the vintage quirkiness of Eagle Valley Resort. You’ll find lots of activities including hiking, fishing, hunting, off-roading and even karaoke on weekends! They also host competitions, parties and events throughout the year. The adults in our family love the on-site saloon (old jukebox and cheap drinks, anyone?). This place is far from fancy, but it’s just plain FUN.

- Address: Resort Road, Pioche, NV 89043
- Phone: (775) 962-5293

Carson Valley Inn RV Park
- Why We Love It: In classic Nevada fashion, this large RV park is adjacent to the Carson Valley Inn & Casino. It isn’t for those seeking a traditional camping experience, but a comfortable spot for a grown-up getaway with lots of amenities. The RV park is clean and well laid out, plus its central location puts it just a short shuttle ride or walk from gaming, golf, live music, dining and more. This year, they’ve had concerts from artists like Clint Black, Ted Nugent and the Righteous Brothers… count us in!
